Trust work has two distinct but interrelated aspects :-
Drafting, creation of trusts Administration of Trusts

1. Drafting and creation of trusts
The work involves advising clients. identifying their situations, and their aims, and drawing up trust documents that will be effective to achieve the stated aims of the clients and in particular to take account of the prevailing tax law.

This requires :-
A thorough understanding of tax law and the law of trusts. Excellent drafting skills and a full appreciation of the legal effect of words. Clarity of thought and an attention to detail. An ability to advise clearly and authoritatively. Liaising with accountants, IFAs and other specialists as necessary.

2. Administration of Trusts
Managing existing trusts, and reporting at least annually to the trustees and beneficiaries as appropriate: dealing with changes of trustees, transfer in and out of the trust, tax issues annually and upon any disposals: keeping trust accounts up to date

This requires :-
good organisational skills and record keeping a thorough understanding and application of the law of trusts a thorough understanding and application of tax law and practice good numeracy, accounting ability and an attention to detail an awareness of the ongoing legal responsibilities of trustees liaison with accountants, IFAs, stockbrokers and other professionals as necessary to ensure proper professional supervision of the trust. good interpersonal skills to deal with a range of professional and lay persons an understanding of stocks and shares and other investment types
