Regrettably, divorce is now very common and clients often need sound advice on the divorce process and the consequences. There are basically five grounds for divorce under English law namely:

(i) adultery

(ii) unreasonable behaviour

(iii) desertion

(iv) two years separation with the consent of the other party

(v) five years separation

Parties intending to divorce in due course after periods of either two years or five years separation may need to consider a Separation Agreement to regulate matters in the meantime (e.g. the finances, children etc).
