Accidents arising from slips and trips in public places are often perceived as trivial, and an example of the "compensation culture." In reality, a high proportion of such accidents involve serious injury. These types of accidents don’t just happen on the pavements and highways or at work, they can occur in all sorts of places such as bars and clubs, shops, cinemas, infact almost anywhere.

All public and private organisations owe a duty of care to ensure all visitors to premises are safe. Local Authorities are also under a duty to ensure that pavements and public highways are in a safe condition for public use. 

If you unfortunately slip or trip and believe that the accident could have been prevented, you may be entitled to make a claim for your injuries.
Always report any accident to an appropriate person and if necessary ask for an accident record to be completed. It is often useful to take photos of the area, noting if there are any warning signs in the vicinity and obtain witness details, wherever possible. 

As with all types of claims if you notice something that could potentially cause a problem for others, even if you have not been injured yourself, it is good practice to report the problem which will hopefully prevent someone injuring themselves too badly.
