In the Home Front displays you can learn about life in Britain, and the Newhaven area during the war. Displays of artefacts dating from the war years include;

-rationing
-evacuation
-the threat of gas attack
-radio entertainment
-the joy of VE Day

You can experience first hand what it must have been like to live through the Blitz. A realistic air-raid simulation in a street shelter is narrated by the world's most famous ARP Warden - Bill Pertwee of Dad's Army fame.

 

Facilities available for pre-booked school visits include;

-Worksheets
-Accompanying notes
-Introductory talk
-Undercover Schoolroom
-Teachers and helpers admitted free
-Entry £1.80 per child
-Available throughout the year

 
How to arrange a school visit

Please telephone the fort office (01273 517622) between 8.30am and 5.00pm with the following information;

1. Name and address of school
2. Telephone number
3. Contact name
4. Teacher in charge
5. Preferred date of visit
6. Arrival time
7. Purpose of visit
8. Age group
9. Number of children

The fort staff will confirm the date of your visit immediately and then write to acknowledge your valued booking. Additional information such as worksheets and accompanying notes will be sent to you.
