The basement of a property
on Caversham Bridge, Reading requiring underpinning.
The only access was via a standard-size door and alley
at road level that led down a conventional ladder.
These problems were overcome by using river barges
to bring in ballast and cement and remove the excavated
material each day.
250 m² slab was cast beneath the existing walls.
Residents continued to occupy the flats above the basement
whilst these works were carried out. |

Before the final concrete pour we submitted specialist
traffic diversion proposals in order to obtain a partial
road closure.
This allowed a pump to be brought in to bring concrete
across the river bridge and into the building at water
level.
