Philip Simmonds is one of the few British Potters currently making hand coiled pots of this size. He gained his Ceramics Degree at Loughborough College of Art and Design, and his major influence was the internationally renowned ceramicist Magdalena Odundo. It was Magdalena’s tuition that inspired Philip to perfect the coiling technique he now uses in his own work.

Several years of commission work and teaching followed until the establishment of The Laurels Pottery in 1999. This has enabled Philip to concentrate full time on the designing and making of these impressive pieces. Accompanied in the business by his wife Claire (also a Loughborough Ceramics graduate) they have combined their talents resulting in a reputation for excellence in the field of Sculptural Ceramics.
