Audley Court has donated thousands of books left redundant after the closure of St Elphin's School in Matlock, Derbyshire to nearby theological institution, Cliff College.
Ann Hodgson, head of English at St Elphin's from 1982-2002, accepted the books on behalf of Cliff College, where she works now part time.
Ann comments: "I am thrilled to accept this books on behalf on Cliff College and thank Audley Court for its generosity. Generations of school children have already benefitted from these learning tools, and long may it continue!
She adds: "The conversion of the building will be excellent for the local community, and I am delighted to hear Audley Court will be re-employing past staff to assist in the development. A retirement village is the ideal solution to preserve the history of the school, yet bring life back to the building."
David Wild, sales and marketing director for Audley Court comments: "We were adament that we couldn't let so many books go to waste, and when Ann got in touch everything fell into place. It was wonderful to hear her reminiscing about her time here and we will be inviting her back next year to see the finished product!"
