He completed six years in a NHS Rehabilitation Unit, predominantly working closely with health care professionals. Here he took care of people with various illnesses and disabilities, maximising their potential by ensuring the specific equipment was used for the individuals.
Stuart later moved into the Community Care Sector, here he held various positions including Training & Development and Registered Manager. In these posts he worked closely with the Commission for Social Care Inspection(CSCI), Social Services , Local Primary Care Trusts, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and District Nurses, where he often took part in multi-disciplinary assessments. He also developed a fast track system in conjunction with the emergency duty team for rapid assessments, for those individuals who required care out of hours.
In his position as Registered Manager he was accountable for 60 members of staff and over three hundred clients. This role involved ensuring that the training was appropriate and current. Stuart was also responsible for the completion of Care Plans, Pre discharge and Risk assessments to ensure the highest level of safety was ensured. These assessments involved evaluating client needs to meet their individual requirements.
In 2003 Stuart became a Moving and Handling Trainer, after 2 years delivering in house training sessions over two sites, he joined the Pamela Rose team. He continues to work around the north west delivering Moving & Handling and Risk assessment training to the Nursing , Residential and Domiciliary care settings. In addition Stuart conducts Bespoke consultations which involve, care planning, developing and modifying policies and procedures and ensuring these companies are working within the CSCI regulations as well as making structural and equipment recommendations, and implementing safe systems of work.
Stuart is always eager to expand on his skills and further enhanced his knowledge by completing a Nationally recognised advanced risk assessment course, Profession trainers certificate and a Diploma in Holistic Therapy. He has a interest in the link between Moving and Handling, Wound Care and Pressure Relieving Equipment. Stuart has had two case studies published describing how to implement good practice within wound care management in accordance with N.I.C.E guidance and the impact of moving and handling has in conjunction with pressure relieving equipment on the prevention of skin damage within the nursing home environment.
At present Stuart remains working in the north west develivering bespoke training, consultations and assessments. He still works as the Care Co-ordinator for the largest independently privately owned care group in the U.K, and feels that this is a key element in maintaining his person centred approach.
