HOW WE STARTED

In the Gardening / Horticulture sector since 1978

1978--1983
Starting straight after school in 1978 &  first working as a trainee gardener for Brighton Council I attended
Horticultural college for 4 years where I attained 3 qualifications in Amenity and Commercial Horticulture.
Working locally in Brighton and at their nursery site in Stanmer Park I was partly responsible for the
maintenance of local grounds and gardens as well as the production of plant material used throughout the
borough.

1983- 1987
I then joined Hove/Portslade  borough council as a Crafstman Gardener which maintained extensive grounds
including schools and colleges

1987--ongoing
I started Tidy Gardens and became a Self Employed Gardener/ Designer, where I established a fast growing and loyal client database.

1988--1998
Whilst still running Tidy Gardens I joined a local Training Organisation as a Horticulture Teacher/Trainer
delivering levels 1 & 2 in Commercial Crop Production and Gardening Techniques.
Whilst there I attended the Brighton University Centre For Learning and Development where I attained the
D32, D33 D34 & D36 NVQ training and assessing qualifications, The C&G 926 adult trainers award,
Qualifications in delivering Literacy & Numeracy, as well as certificates in Training Skills.

1998--1999
I became a manager for a Garden Centre which involved me in the day to day running of a busy plant centre.
Where we sold just about everything relating to the gardening industry, and where we offered help and advice to new and veteran gardeners.
Whilst working here, Tidy Gardens was still establishing its client database.

1999--2003
I`m not sure how this happened but I  joined a local computer company as a production manager, and later
became their First Line Support Engineer.
And whilst working on behalf of Tidy Gardens in the evenings and every weekend & employing staff to continue the general gardening business, I continued to develop the Design & Project management side of the business. Establishing Tidy Gardens as a large "
Project Gardening" service as well as continuing to carry out all of the other services that are mentioned on this website

2003-- Present Day  - Back full time with Tidy Gardens and here to develop & continue the good work.

"My ambition is to develop a learning centre where disadvantaged people can train in Horticulture or enjoy it for its therapeutic value.
A centre which will produce vast quantities of  houseplants, trees and shrubs for sale cheaply to the community.
And a centre which will provide an un-equalled garden service for local people.

All of this will require great funding, which is the main problem.
So if your rich or have access to funding and wish to put your name at the head of a great project then please feel free to contact me."
