HAVmeter
Personal Hand-Arm Vibration Protection
Protecting employees from the dangers of over exposure to hand-arm vibration (HAV) has become easier with the HAVmeter.
Companies using power tools can now quickly and easily manage and measure exposure to hand-arm vibration with this simple yet very effective device. By using a tag on each power tool and a personal vibration meter employees can manage their own vibration levels with a simple points system and be alerted when vibration levels become dangerous.
The HAVmeter system breaks down into 4 parts. A base station, the HAVmeter, the tool tag and analysis software.
The base station is a docking bay which collects data from and recharges the HAVmeter. Each employee is given a swipe card which they use on the base station and collect a personal HAVmeter for the duration of their shift.
The HAVmeter is then magnetically attached to each tool being used via a small tag which is permanently attached to the power tool. As the tool is being used the HAVmeter measures the vibration levels and uses a simple green, amber and red warning as vibration exposure increases while also displaying the number of HAV Points using the HSE system for Hand-Arm Vibration exposure.
Each tag is also colour coded (green, amber and red) and are fixed to the power tool. The colour of the tag denotes the potential risk of HAV from that tool.
After the shift is complete the employee then simply places the HAVmeter back on the base station. Data from the HAVmeter is transferred to the base station which can then be transferred to a PC for analysis in the Toolminder Software. The software will provide reports on a worker’s exposure to HAV and assess the tool usage.
The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 specifies a limit of 2.5ms-2 (100 points) at which employers are required to introduce measures to reduce exposure to Hand-Arm Vibration. There is also an exposure limit of 5.0ms-2 (400 points). This limit should not be exceeded under any circumstances.
The HAVmeter accurately measures HAV and allows employees to know their exact exposure levels. A company’s standing as a responsible employer will be enhanced and reputation for health and safety measures vastly increased.
The HAVmeter system can also be used to track tool usage. Each tag is unique to its own tool so the system can be used as an asset tracking device.
The Toolminder Software will also save time by calculating exposure levels and generate reports for individual workers or groups.
Using the HAVmeter system can also reduce insurance premiums for workers using vibrating equipment.
What You Will Require
Each HAVmeter system requires a base station and enough HAVmeters for each employee using power tools during their shift and a similar number of swipe cards. Every individual power tool will require a tag.
Software is an optional extra, though highly recommended for data analysis for both users and tools.
We are also able to supply accessories and extras to make your job easier.
Accessories include adhesives to attach tags to tools and cable ties.
Extra tags, swipe cards and HAVmeters can also be bought separately when required.
